Blacktown terminally ill carer, Violeta Hansen, faces fresh charges over alleged jewellery theft

A western Sydney woman that was paid to care for the terminally ill has been hit with fresh charges over allegations she stole cash and jewellery during -in-home care.

A western Sydney woman that stole more than $40,000 worth of jewellery from terminally ill patients she cared for has had an extensive list of fresh charges laid against her.

Violeta Hansen, 46, appeared at Burwood Local Court on November 26, after pleading guilty of stealing dozens of pieces of jewellery from the homes of terminally ill and disabled patients she worked for in Wiley Park, Bexley, Drummoyne and Doonside over a ten month period.

Hansen was accompanied by her partner and lawyer, Fotini Constantopedos, on Tuesday morning as she appeared for fresh charges and a breach of bond. She was released on bail last month.

Hansen faces a total of 23 charges against her, including 13 fresh charges alleging the theft of $4000 jewellery, debit cards resulting in the unlawful withdrawal of $870 in cash and making false statements to pawnbrokers.

Court documents allege Hansen stole $1900 worth of jewellery, including sterling silver bracelets and pendants from the home of Nadine Jebraiel in Bexley between March 1 and September 19. It is also alleged she stole $100 from North Rocks woman, Janey Ramsey on August 29, as well as a gold superman symbol - worth $100 - from Colbee man, Jason Boyd between September 23 and October 10.

The 46-year-old is also accused of stealing a series of 9ct gold earrings worth a total of $400, as well as a 14ct gold ring with sapphire stone and diamond halo worth $500 and 18ct gold and silver solitaire diamond wedding ring worth $1000 from Colebee woman, Suzanne Pattinson between August 26 and September 7.

It is also alleged the woman stole an ANZ debit card from Chatswood man, Lincolne Innis and withdrew a total of $870 over a period of three days in February and had two gold link chains, a gold ring with clear stones, a men’s two-toned wedding band, a gold bracelet, oroton watch and a gold Swarovski earrings and necklace set suspected of being stolen on October 10.

Hansen is accused of providing a further four false statements to pawnbrokers.

Woman in court guilty of stealing from terminally ill

The woman, who was entrusted to care for the terminally ill and disabled in their homes - and was even taken on an all expenses paid cruise by a patient - had previously pleaded guilty to all charges relating to false statements and four of the six counts of stealing property. She refused allegations that she stole $1950 in cash from two homes.

Court documents revealed Hansen stole four diamond rings, a gold sapphire ring, a watch, two wedding bands, two gold chains and a diamond pendant.

Police Facts revealed Hansen has a “has a pawning history dating back in excess of ten years” and a “propensity for stealing from the vulnerable”.

“The accused had caused an unmeasurable amount of grief and difference to the disabled and terminally ill and undoubtedly added to their decline in health,” police facts said.

Hansen has been employed with six different disability support agencies under the National Disability Insurance Scheme - admitting to police that she was suspended multiple times after accusations of stealing.

“The accused stated that she is financially unstable and has no money,” police facts said. “Living week to week on money she earns from employment and through pawning stolen items.

“The accused … did not offer any sign of remorse or apology to her victims.”

Ms Hansen is a dual citizen with a Philippine passport.

Ms Hansen was ordered reappear in Burwood Court on December 10 to issue a plea to fresh charges laid against her.
