Barry Reidy: Doonside garbage truck driver charged over death
A garbage truck driver who was once at the centre of a protest against the SBS series Struggle Street is facing dangerous and negligent driving charges over a crash which left a 61-year-old woman dead.

A garbage truck driver who was at the centre of a protest against the SBS TV series Struggle Street has been charged over the tragic death of a woman in Doonside last week.
Barry John Reidy, 54, of Doonside, was driving a garbage truck on Crawford Rd near Power St at 7am on March 31 when he allegedly hit and killed a 61-year-old woman.
The woman suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
Mr Reidy was excused for appearing at Blacktown Local Court where his matter was mentioned on Tuesday.
He faces three charges, including dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and not keeping left of the dividing line.
Mr Reidy was not hurt in last week’s crash and was taken to Blacktown Hospital shortly after for mandatory testing.
NSW Police Crash Investigation Unit is looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
He is yet to enter a plea to the charges.
In 2015, Mr Reidy was one of a dozen drivers to take part in a Blacktown Council garbage truck protest outside SBS’ Artarmon studios over the controversial series Struggle Street.
The matter will return to Penrith Local Court on June 5.
