"My favourite however remains building a relationship with special clients and seeing them enjoy their hair, time after time."

Mr Botha said the perfect combination of consistency, skill, ability to communicate, vision and personality is what makes a successful hair stylist.

He said one of the favourite parts of his job is seeing his client feel confident, their posture changes, their eyes light up and they are ready to take on the world.

IZABELLA MILLS: LUXURY ESCAPE DAY SPA — EPSOM

Luxury Escape Day Spa second year hairdresser apprentice Izabella Molls was "over the moon" to learn she was a finalist in the competition.

"This means the absolute world to me — I just cannot believe it," Ms Mills said.

She said hairdressing had always been one of her dreams, but didn’t realise she would actually go ahead and pursue the career.

"Your job is obviously something you do so much and spend a lot of your life doing, my workplace makes it easy to do what I love," Ms Mills said.

"The thing I love most about hairdressing would be the fact I can talk and make connections with people, and my clients turn into lifelong friends."

She said what made a successful stylist would be taking your time and listening to your clients needs and wants.

"Be passionate and take pride and care into your clients," Ms Mills said.

"The most successful thing about hairdressing would be the reaction that it gives to my clients.

"Making my clients feel confident and happy in there own skin, makes my day."

HOLLY LESSING: HALO LUXURY HAIR — SHEPPARTON

Stylist Holly Lessing from HALO Luxury Hair was another hairdresser who received a lot of votes in the competition.

Ms Lessing said she loved the opportunity to be creative daily, that no day was ever the same and the chats and the trust she built with clients.

"I think success in this industry comes from loving your job, giving everything to it, and being passionate," she said.

"I always say if you have thoughts to leave this industry then it's time to leave because once you lose the passion, you can never provide a service that you know you've given your all to."

What Ms Lessing loves most about being a hairdresser is seeing the confidence and the occasional tear that her clients walk out with.

"It's the only reward I need," she said.

"For someone who has been so down about their hair to total opposite when they walk out, just melts my heart."

#1 WINNER

MADDISON NEW: STUDIO CANVAS — BALLARAT

The stylist that received the most votes from readers was Studio Canvas hairdresser Maddison New.

Ms New said the best part of being a hairdresser was being able to get creative daily.

"We are always learning new things as hairdressers — I feel so lucky to make meaningful connections with my clients," she said.

"I believe to be a good stylist you must be passionate in all fields of hairdressing, willing to learn new things and be up to date with what’s on 'trend', but most importantly making your clients walk out the door feeling good about themselves."
