Former AFL star Dane Swan’s The Albion sold to new owners

A South Melbourne bar partly owned by former Collingwood football star Dane Swan has been sold.

The Albion, located on York St, was sold to nightclub and entertainment business District 14.

It was previously owned by Albert Park Leisure, which lists businessman Matt Darcy, brother of media identity and ex-AFL player Luke, as director.

Dane Swan’s business Hormel Promotions is listed as a shareholder of Albert Park Leisure.

New co-owner and director of District 14 Dominic Porter told the Herald Sun that The Albion changed hands on Tuesday.

He said The Albion would be trading as usual with “changes to come”.

The popular venue – a rooftop bar, event space and nightclub – was previously targeted in an arson attack in 2015 after a disgruntled builder set it alight leaving an estimated $5m in damages.

Police arrested builder Andrew McMahon, who had been in charge of the renovations.

He pleaded guilty to arson and was sentenced to five years’ jail.

Swan is also a part-owner of the historic Union Hotel in Windsor and has interests in South Yarra venue The Osborne.

Former Western Bulldogs captain Luke Darcy is part of the Darcy Group, which takes in The Precinct in Richmond, Citizen café & bar next door and formerly Melbourne Public in the Docklands.
