Dane Swan’s South Melbourne nightspot has been hit by a Covid-19 scare.

The venue – the Albion Hotel next to the South Melbourne market – opened on November 25 after spending the past six months closed because of pandemic lockdowns and associated social distancing and crowd number restrictions.

On Saturday however, two days after its reopening the bar posted bad news on its social media channels that it would be shut that night following a staff member testing positive to Covid-19.

“Due to a staff member testing positive to Covid-19 we are unable to open our venue tonight Saturday 27/11/21,” the note read.

“All staff and management have to be tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.

“We are devastated and would love to open tonight however public health and the safety of our staff and patrons is the most important thing to us. We are so sorry.”

Commenting on the Albion’s Covid-19 shut down Swan wrote on Instagram: “Well, this can get f***ed.”

The Albion drama caps off a tough week for Swan who ended up requiring 12 stitches in his hand after falling in a Sydney nightclub on Sunday morning.

After a trip to an emergency room he headed back to Melbourne where his badly gashed hand was stitched up by a doctor he knew through footy circles.

Swan is setting off next month for a three-month holiday in the US.

Swan is part owner of The Albion.
