The young man accused of stealing a caravan with a family still inside forcing them to jump out has had almost half the charges dismissed.
It was alleged that on August 19 Matt Andrew Dunn stole the vehicle from Allen Terry Caravan Park in Hughenden while a family with three young children slept inside before they exited.
The 18-year-old was originally charged with five counts of deprivation of liberty, two counts of dangerous operation of vehicle, three counts of enter dwelling and commit and one count each of wilful damage, unlawful use of motor vehicle, unlawful possession of weapons, enter premise by break, driving without a licence and possessing explosives.
On Tuesday morning in Townsville Magistrates Court defence lawyer Jake Donn from Legal Aid Queensland appeared on Mr Dunn’s behalf and said the prosecution had intentions to dismiss some of the charges.
Police prosecutor Joseph Kurtin said no evidence was offered to the five deprivation of liberty offences and to one count of the dangerous operation of vehicle offence.
Mr Donn said his client was now in a position to schedule a sentence date as he would be pleading guilty to the remaining charges.
Magistrate Viviana Keegan officially dismissed Mr Dunn of the six charges and adjourned the matter to January 24, 2025 for sentence.
Mr Dunn was remanded in custody.
