The breakfast DJs are getting ready to run circles around Townsville along with local legends Matty Bowen, Minty and more. Here’s what they’re doing it for.

The city and sign of Townsville will be swarmed with runners as people take the pavement to raise money for charity.

Star 106.3 radio hosts Archie and Donny are taking part in a one-of-its-kind charity challenge on Friday, August 1 to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The breakfast crew are taking part in what’s alleged to be a full marathon around the iconic Townsville sign in Central Park.

How on earth are they doing a ‘full marathon’ around the sign you ask? By doing 1406 laps to complete the 42.2km distance.

The duo of course are not doing all, if any, of the work as they have recruited legends and personalities from around Townsville including NRL superstar Matty Bowen, MC Glenn ‘Minty’ Mintern, Brigadier Ben McLennan to represent the ADF and politicians Adam Baillie, Janelle Poole, Natalie Marr and Nick Dametto.

Optus has made the pledge that for each lap, $1 will be donated to RMHC.

“Did we train for this?” Archie said.

“Absolutely not. We’re not sure what will give out first - our legs, our minds - but we know Townsville will get behind this. It’s the People’s Marathon.”

Residents are welcome to come down to show their support and take part in a lap (or 10, as Archie has encouraged) and help the team to raise crucial funds.
