The latest creation from cult dessert bar Shibui will be unveiled in Adelaide's eastern suburbs this weekend.

Shmochi by Shibui on Payneham Road, St Peters, will focus on their signature hot mochi doughnuts and soft serve plus a new range of ten ice cream flavours, each with their own twist.

The creative flavours pay homage to the Vietnamese and Chinese heritage of Shibui’s owners, dessert king Quang Nguyen, his partner Thy Nguyen, and Lisa Chao.

They include Ube Cookies and Cream, Durian Birthday Cake, Lychee and Strawberry Eton Mess, Thai Milk Tea and Brown Sugar Cake.

Ms Nguyen said the Shmochi has been in the planning for many years and it was wonderful to see the concept finally come to life.

“We have been itching to open this venue so that we can bring all our sweet and creative concepts to the community that has supported us for so many years,” she said.

“What we have planned as far as ice cream flavours, collaborations and sweet treats is truly coming from our hearts.”

Mr Nguyen is the brainchild behind various innovative desserts which have gained a cult following.

Among his eye-catching offerings include Redskin soft-serve with strawberry fairy floss cloud, and a unique take on nutella on toast.

“Shmochi is the place where I can bring all the ideas that I have been working on in secret, to one place,” he said.

“Having a gelato offering allowsus to be creative and enables me to have freedom to be playful with flavours.”

Mr Nguyen previously opened Devour Cafe Patisserie at Prospect, and launched Shibui Dessert Bar in the city in 2018.

He’s also behind Noi Vietnamese Eatery on Glen Osmond Road and Ong Vietnamese Kitchen on Rundle Street.
