Bowen Gregory Milne, 22, denied bail in court after allegedly ‘orchestrating’ revenge Morphett Vale attempted murder attempt

A young man who allegedly led three mates on a bloody home invasion rampage must stay in custody to protect the alleged victim, a court has heard.

A young father-to-be accused of “orchestrating” a violent revenge-fuelled murder attempt on a Morphett Vale man who hired his girlfriend as a topless entertainer has had his desperate bail bid rejected by the state’s top magistrate.

Bowen Gregory Milne, 22, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday in front of Chief Magistrate Mary-Louise Hribal, seeking home detention bail to support his co-accused and pregnant girlfriend Nitika Peacock, 21.

Opposing the application, prosecution submitted there was a need to protect the alleged victim – Jared Hocking – out of a “fear of retribution”.

“We say he is not a suitable candidate (for bail) due to the gravity of the offending, which we say effectively he was the main offender in this matter and his involvement was more serious than the other (co-accused),” a prosecutor said.

“This goes also to the need to protect the complainant, which is paramount – the fact that there’s a history between them and animosity.

“We say there is strong evidence that he orchestrated this home invasion based on the messages between himself, his girlfriend and the (other) co-accused. There’s a known motive. Effectively, we say he’s a high risk of reoffending and, should he be granted home detention bail, this puts the complainant’s safety at risk.”

Mr Milne, of Port Noarlunga, is yet to enter any pleas to aggravated serious criminal trespass, attempted murder and aggravated cause harm with intent.

Earlier this month, prosecution alleged Mr Milne “instigated the whole chain of events” after Mr Hocking hired Ms Peacock – a Christie Downs “adult entertainer” at the time – to come to his home for a “sexual act” a few days before the attack.

A court previously heard Mr Milne “knew of” Mr Hocking – and had been told the two “did more than just talk”, which Ms Peacock vehemently denied.

It also heard a car – containing Mr Milne, Ms Peacock, co-accused Bruno Troon, 34, and Joshua House, 27 – arrived at Mr Hocking’s property just after midnight, before Ms Peacock was “forced” to knock on the front door.

It’s alleged, after he approached the door, Mr Hocking was chased through the hallway of his home by Mr House, of Christie Downs, Mr Troon, of Morphett Vale, and Mr Milne – who were armed with a knife, crowbar and machete – while Ms Peacock allegedly filmed the ordeal on her phone.

Mr Milne’s co-accused are charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and attempted murder.

Mr Hocking was stabbed and sustained a perforated lung during the attack.

Following the alleged ordeal, Mr Milne was also taken to hospital – by Ms Peacock – where he underwent surgery for injuries sustained during the attack.

On Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Hribal denied Mr Milne’s bail application and remanded him in custody to face court next month alongside his co-accused.
