The jealous “instigator” of a terrifying alleged murder plot had a “beef” with his alleged victim, and rallied three friends to help storm his Morphett Vale home at midnight, prosecutors claim.
Bowen Gregory Milne, 22, faced Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday via video link from the Adelaide Remand Centre alongside his co-accused Joshua Allan House, 27 – while the remaining co-accused Nitika Peacock, 21, and Bruno Paore Troon, 34, appeared in person having been granted home detention bail.
In front of Chief Magistrate Mary-Louise Hribal, prosecution requested a further four-week adjournment due to the “complexity” and “complicated” facts of the case.
“This matter has been complex, and requires a longer period of time,” they said.
“The facts around it are quite complicated, together with the investigation being quite extensive in order to link all the offenders to the matter.”
Following the adjournment, which was granted by Judge Hribal, Mr Milne, of Port Noarlunga, made an application for home detention bail – submitting his co-accused Ms Peacock, was four months pregnant with his child.
Prosecution told the court they were opposed to all forms of bail, alleging Mr Milne’s involvement in the offending was more serious than that of his three co-accused.
“Mr Milne has a history with the complainant – they know each other and have previously had a beef with each other,” they said.
“Mr Milne instigated this whole chain of events. Ms Peacock, even though she has been charged with the same offences, there are text messages where she was trying to discourage Mr Milne from proceeding.”
Prosecution further submitted Mr Milne had “motive” to harm his alleged victim Jared Hocking, 27, who had hired Ms Peacock – an “adult entertainer” at the time – to come to his home for a “sexual act” just a few days before.
All four have been jointly charged with one count each of aggravated serious criminal trespass and attempted murder while Mr Milne is also charged with aggravated cause harm with intent. They are yet to enter any pleas.
A court previously heard a car – containing all four co-accused – arrived at Mr Hocking’s property just after midnight, before Ms Peacock, of Christie Downs, was “forced” to knock on the front door.
Prosecutors previously alleged, after he approached the door, Mr Hocking was chased through the hallway of his home by Mr House, of Christie Downs, Mr Troon, of Morphett Vale, and Mr Milne – who were armed with a knife, crowbar and machete – while Ms Peacock allegedly filmed the ordeal on her phone.
Emergency services rushed to the property about 12.45am and found Mr Hocking needing urgent medical care after suffering a perforated lung from stab wounds.
On Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Hribal ordered a home detention assessment report for Mr Milne but remanded him in custody to appear again in court later this month.
The quartet will all return to court together next month.
