What’s on: How northern NSW will mark Anzac Day in 2024, from Tweed to the Mid-North Coast

Jet flyovers, emotional Dawn Services, proud marches and a long-awaited spot of two-up with mates to follow up – here’s how northern NSW will commemorate Anzac Day in 2024.

It’s also worth mentioning NSW Police will be on the prowl with double demerits in place as part of Operation Anzac Day 2024, from 12.01am Wednesday to 11.59pm Sunday, coinciding with the end of the school holidays.

Here’s the major Anzac events listed from the Tweed down to the Mid-North Coast as the nation remembers all who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

– Kingscliff – Service at Rowan Robinson Park, 6am. Assemble for march on Marine Pde, outside bowls club, 10.15am, followed by main service at Rowan Robinson Park, 10.30am.

– Murwillumbah – Service at Cenotaph, 5.30am. Assemble for march on Brisbane St, 10.10am, followed by Cenotaph service at 10.45am.

– Pottsville – assemble for march outside Pottsville Beach Chemist at 7.30am, followed by main service at 8am.

– Tumbulgum – Service at Memorial Gates, Bawden St at 4.28am.

– Tweed Heads – Service at Chris Cunningham Park at 5.55am. Assemble for march at Chris Cunningham Park for 10.30am departure, followed by the main service at 11am.

– Tyalgum – Service at Tyalgum Memorial Park at 5.30am.

– Uki – Dawn Service at memorial opposite the school at 4.15am for a 4.28am start, followed by a gunfire breakfast at the community hall.

BYRON SHIRE

- Byron Bay – Service at the Memorial Gates, 5.30am. Followed by breakfast at the Byron Bay Services Club, nominal cost. From 10.30am, march from Apex Park to the Memorial Gates. Service to begin 10.50am.

– Bangalow – 10:30am march from the Bangalow Hotel to the Cenotaph

March starts at 10.40am from Bangalow Hotel, Byron Street to Station Street, Bangalow, for a short outdoor service at the RSL memorial.

– Brunswick Heads – 4:30am march from the RSL Hall to the Cenotaph at Memorial Park. Byron Bay – Dawn Service at the Memorial Gates at 5.30am. Breakfast at the Byron Bay Services Club. March will start at 10.30am at Apex Park. Service will commence at 10.50am to 11.40am.

– Mullumbimby – Dawn Service at the Cenotaph opposite ex-services club, 4.30am. Breakfast at the club. Free for veterans. Mid-morning march will leave Apex Park.at 10.50am. Civic service to be held directly after the march.

LISMORE

– Lismore – March from the Old Post Office corner, 4.50am. Service 5am. Followed by breakfast at the Lismore City Bowling Club. Form up for the main march along Molesworth St departing Browns Creek Carpark at 8.30am. March begins 9am. Service at the Lismore Cenotaph following the march.

– North Lismore – Service at the North Lismore War Memorial, Alexandra Pde, 7.45am.

– Nimbin – Service at 5.30am, followed by breakfast at Nimbin Bowling Club, 6am. Assemble for the march at the Hospital car park. March starts at 10.50am. Late-morning service at the Nimbin District Memorial after the march.

– Clunes – Commemoration service at the Village Park at 9am. RFS to provide free tea and Anzac biscuits.

BALLINA SHIRE

– Ballina – Dawn Service, RSL Memorial Park, 5.30am $5 breakfast for public. March on River St, Ballina at 10.30am. Service at RSL Memorial Park, 1 Grant St at 10.55am.

KYOGLE SHIRE

– Kyogle: Dawn Service at the Cenotaph, 5.30am, followed by gunfire breakfast at Kyogle Bowling Club. Assemble for march on Geneva St (opposite Exchange Hotel) 9.15am. March through town centre to Cenotaph. for 10am service.

– Woodenbong: Assemble for March opposite Foodworks 10.30am for 10.45am march. Service at Woodenbong Public Hall, 11am. March to the Lest We Forget sign for wreath laying ceremony at 11.45am. Diggers luncheon at RSL Hall, 12.30pm (limited numbers). The Woodenbong War Memorial Trust and Woodenbong RSL sub-Branch will conduct two-up at the Woodenbong Hotel from 4-8pm and there will be a minute’s silence at 6pm.

– Bonalbo: Dawn Service at Patrick McNamee Anzac Memorial Park, 6am. Gather at corner of Sandiland and Peacock streets to march to the Bonalbo Community Hall, 10.45am at Bonalbo Community Hall service to be held 11am.

– Old Bonalbo: Service at Old Bonalbo Soldiers’ Memorial Hall, 9.30am.

– Tabulam – Assemble in Clarence St for march to new Light Horse Memorial, 10.30am. Service at 11am. Refreshments at Tabulam Hotel at midday.

MID-NORTH COAST

– Kempsey – Ex-service personnel will assemble at the Memorial Hall and march to the East Kempsey Memorial, 5.20am. Service will commence at East Kempsey, then return to the Memorial Hall for breakfast, 5.30am, for veterans, service personnel and RSL members. Marchers to assemble at Sydney St, next to the service station, 10.15am. Proceed to the East Kempsey Memorial along Belgrave St across the bridge to Rudder St, 10.30am. East Kempsey Service will commence at 11am. Return to the Kempsey Macleay RSL Club for 12.30pm lunch, free for veterans, service personnel, ex-service personnel, those in uniform and those wearing medals or RSL badges.

– Crescent Head- Marchers to assemble at the service station, 9am, to march to the Memorial, where the Crescent Head Service will begin.

– Bellbrook – March from East St, 10.45am, along Main St to the Memorial for 11am service.

– Hat Head – Service at the Hat Head Bowling Club, 5.30am. Follow-up club service at 10am.

– Willawarrin – Service will commence at the Willawarrin Memorial, 5.30am. Follow-up service at 9am.

– Gladstone – Marchers line up at Kinchela St and Memorial Ave and march to the Memorial along Kinchela St, 10.45am. Service at Memorial, 11am.

– South West Rocks – Service at the Sea Breeze Hotel, 5am. Service at the car park, Paragon Ave, 11am, then march to Cenotaph.

– Stuarts Point – Assemble at the Bowling Club at 10.30am for 10.40am march to the Stuart’s Point memorial. Service will then commence at 11am. Lunch and usual Anzac Day activities at the Bowling Club from 12pm.
