Boxing gloves, headdresses, gift boxes, wine and miniature tractor models were some of the unusual gifts given to our parliamentarians in the 2023-24 financial year. Check out the table of all the gifts registered.

Queensland politicians have received a slew of intriguing gifts, according to the latest parliamentary gift register, with former Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk topping the list in both monetary value and offerings.

Gifts to parliamentarians revealed in a document published on the parliamentary website, showed they varied dramatically in style and sentiment, from luxurious home goods to peculiar collectibles, reflecting both personal and diplomatic relations of Queensland leaders.

The review of gift disclosures, which totalled $14,662, showed that former Premier Palaszczuk received items valued at more than $1800 in the reporting period from July 1, 2023 to the time she resigned in December 2023.

The most expensive gift recorded over the financial year to June this year, was a limited edition print titled Warrior Without a Weapon by artist Naomi Hobson, given to Treasurer Cameron Dick, which clocked in at a staggering $3000.

But the list of oddball offerings didn’t stop there.

Across the board, gifts ranged from a miniature FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy to hand-carved boomerangs.

Ms Palaszczuk took home a $312.69 Homebodii gift hamper, and an elegant white china tea set valued at $280, courtesy of a trade mission to China.

She handed in a bottle of Shiraz from Sirromet winery valued at $347.

Among the more culturally rich gifts, the ex-premier also received a sari outfit from the Indian Community Centre, priced at $241.50, which she kept.

Not to be overshadowed, Treasurer Dick also snagged a noteworthy Kavalan Fino Sherry Cask valued at $300, which he donated to charity and a soccer ball signed by FIFA Secretary-General Fatma Samoura, worth $240.

The eclectic collection also featured boxing gloves signed by Australian boxer Jeff Horn, which may come in handy during the upcoming election campaign.

Horn generously gifted signed gloves to Energy Minister Mick de Brenni and Police Minister Mark Ryan.

Other leaders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Minister Leeanne Enoch, received a mix of Indigenous art, including a stunning silver pendant priced at $359.13 which is in storage, along with a Chloe Angus Button Wrap, valued at $260, also in storage.

In a quirky touch, the gifts included some head-turners with Opposition Leader David Crisafulli receiving a traditional headdress and necklace from Papua New Guinea, valued at $440, which will go on display.

Mr de Brenni also secured an unusual gift — a model of the LM2500XPRESS power turbine by GE, with a price tag of $500.
