Former Queensland Labor premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s new role has been revealed — non-executive director on the board of Australia Post.
Ms Palaszczuk takes over from Tony Nutt, who completed two terms as a non-executive director.
Ms Palaszczuk is expected to be paid $107,180 according to the most recent Remuneration Tribunal Determination.
It comes as new details have emerged about her upcoming book.
Her agent, Max Markson, confirmed a “leading publisher’’ had been locked in, although he could not reveal its identity, with an expected publication sometime next year or in 2026.
He said she had begun writing about three weeks ago and promised “explosive insights’’ into her time at the top in politics, but would not go into further detail.
It first emerged in June that she wanted to write a tell-all book.
Ms Palaszczuk was also announced in May as an international ambassador to the Smart Energy Council.
Australia Post said it was unable to comment on Ms Palaszczuk’s new role and referred queries to federal Labor Communications Minister Michelle Rowland’s office.
Ms Rowland said the former premier would bring a “wealth of experience in service delivery to regional and rural communities” to the board.
“Australia Post’s modernisation is critical to ensure it can invest to remain sustainable and continue to deliver for Australian communities over the longer term,” Ms Rowland said.
“Ms Palaszczuk’s appointment ensures a strong and diverse board to support Australia Post on its modernisation journey.
Minister for Finance Katy Gallagher congratulated Ms Palaszczuk on the new role.
“She brings a wealth of experience to the role, which will help Australia Post modernise and meet the changing needs of consumers,” she said.
“Hundreds of thousands of Australians rely on Australia Post services every day and we are committed to making sure it keeps delivering for consumers.”
Ms Palaszczuk’s latest role, her second since quitting state politics in December 2023 following an 18-year career, also came after revelations she had hired celebrity agent Max Markson to help her build a career on the speaking circuit.
She announced her retirement from politics in December last year after serving as state premier between 2015 and 2023.
