A beloved Northern Rivers brothel will see its beds stripped and doors shut after “crippling” rent costs and “an industry downturn”, with the venue’s “lovely ladies welcoming visitors right up until the last bell”.
Sasha’s on Cook Street, Lismore, will close on April 6 after its operators took to social media to share the “heartfelt” announcement.
The brothel has been a rollicking hotspot for tourists and locals alike for the past 12 years.
The closure is another blow for the business, after it was smashed in the historic NSW floods.
“It is with a heavy heart I must announce that we will be closing the doors of Sasha’s on Cook Street after 12 years,” the owners wrote on Instagram.
“We have been crippled by exorbitant rent and an industry-wide downturn.
“My heartfelt thanks to all who have supported us through the good times and bad, particularly those who helped us get back on track after the flood.
“The last day of trading will be Sunday 6th of April. Our lovely ladies will be welcoming visitors right up until the last bell. So come in for one last drink, and to share a toast to the fun times we’ve shared (wink emoji).”
In 2022, Archer Magazine published a story about Sasha’s staff trying to rebuild after the widespread northern NSW flooding disaster. In images shared with the publication, the damage shown is palpable.
Among the destroyed items: Inflatable sex dolls, Moulin Rouge-esque lampshades and countless dildos.
In the wake of the closure announcement, punters took to social media to mourn the news.
One man wrote: “Where to for a happy ending now?”
Another added: “Best in business.”
One local said it was “very sad news” and another said they were “devastated”, with one person going as far to say their closing day should be a “public holiday or day of mourning”.
Sasha’s has been contacted for further comment.
