He turned up at her place despite an order telling him to stay 100 metres away and drunkenly swung off the gate until it snapped off the hinges.

Australia's Court System

A Moreton man got so drunk when celebrating his 50th birthday he went to his ex-partner’s house where he swung on a gate and broke it off.

On Saturday, August 22 the man, who cannot be named, was celebrating his 50th birthday at a friend’s house and was drinking heavily.

His former partner briefly attended the party but was asked to leave as a domestic violence order meant her attending the party would count as him breaching the order.

Late that night, the man drunkenly turned up at the woman’s house despite the order stating he could not come within 100 metres of the house.

She told him to leave as she did not want him staying near the house.

She called the house and he jumped on the gate and began swinging on it.

It eventually broke off its hinges and fell to the ground.

When police arrived they found the gate broken on the ground and the man at the back of the house yard.

The man pleaded guilty to causing wilful damage, breaching a domestic violence order and possessing a drug pipe.

The court heard the father of three and the woman had been in a six year relationship.
