A group of teens were arrested and charged after allegedly setting fire to a Mount Isa business overnight.
Police report they were called to the Wellington Road, Miles End business at 10:30pm on January 31 after they received reports of a structure fire before Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch found a group of five children nearby.
A 14-year-old girl from Happy Valley was charged with one count each of arson and enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence; she was refused bail and is expected to appear in Mount Isa Children’s Court today.
Additionally a 14-year-old Pioneer boy was charged with two counts of stealing and one count each of arson and enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence; he was also refused bail and is due to appear in Mount Isa Children’s Court today.
A further 15-year-old Townview boy was charged with one count each of arson, enter premise with intent to commit an indictable offence and endangering property by fire; he was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
Two more young people are currently assisting police with enquiries.
Investigations will continue.
