ROB OSBORNE reckons since 1970 he has walked and run 260,000km – enough steps to circumnavigate Australia more than seven times.
The Pride of Australia nominee has walked at every Penrith Relay for Life event except one and has walked at the organisation’s events in other districts.
“I’ve done Hawkesbury, Fairfield, Blacktown, Macquarie University and Camden. I reckon I’ve done 30 to 35,” he said.
At Penrith and Blacktown Relay for Life events, Mr Osborne has walked for 24 hours and at the other events he has walked 12 to 16 hours.
Mr Osborne joined Relay For Life because he had many relatives, including his mum and brother and friends, who had cancer.
“So I thought okay, I can do this and raise a few dollars and raise awareness of cancer. I’ve been running for 46 years, in Olympic Games trials, run in Australian marathons, walked and run in competitions for NSW 70-80 times, in open comps 25 to 30 times,” said Mr Osborne, who turns 61 on Monday.
Mr Osbourne also works with street people, he has volunteered with Christ Mission for many years and is working with Salvation Army in Marayong. He said he would also like to help people learn how to read.
