29-year-old man charged following armed robbery at Castletown Shopping Centre

Police have tracked down a man who was allegedly stole a knife from a shop at a Townsville shopping centre. DETAILS.

A 29-year-old West End man has been charged after an alleged armed robbery at a popular Townsville Shopping centre.

Police were called to Castletown Shopping Centre in Pimlico at 10:30am on January 27 after reports of man a stealing a knife from a shop and causing a disturbance, before fleeing the scene.

After patrolling the area in and around the shopping centre, it is alleged police found the man inside Castletown Shopping Centre with the stolen goods.

No was injured during the incidents.

The man has been charged with one count of robbery whilst armed, stealing and trespass.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear before the Townsville Magistrates Court on January 28.

Queensland Police officers are patrolling the area in and around Castletown Shopping Centre after reports of a man armed with a ‘large kitchen knife’ causing a disturbance.

Police were called to the shopping centre near Kings Road in Pimlico at 10:30am on Monday morning after reports of a man with a knife at the centre.

It is understood a man took a knife from a shop and reportedly threatened staff before triple-zero was called and the man fled.

Queensland Police advised that officers arrived promptly to the scene and are currently conducting patrols of the area to locate the person, with inquiries ongoing.

It is advised there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.
