Women say shopping and a holiday in the sun beat sex if asked to choose, survey shows

A MAJORITY of women chose shopping over sex when asked to give up one or the other and a whopping 75 per cent of women chose a holiday in the sun over sex, a recent survey has revealed.

What counts as cheating?

THE three little words women most want to hear are not “I love you” but “It’s on sale”.

A new survey has found women would rather have a shopping spree, or a holiday in the sunshine, than sex.

Asked if they would rather give up shopping or sex, 59 per cent of those women surveyed chose sex, with just 41 per cent saying they could do without their retail therapy.

And when it came to a choice of sex or holidays, a huge 75 per cent put sex second behind taking a break.

But the results of an annual British survey also show that a clear majority of women in their 40s and 50s are happier with their love lives now than they were in their 20s.

The findings also reveal that fewer than one in 10 women have been love rats, with the vast majority also believing their partner has never cheated on them.

Only 6 per cent of women in long-term relationships said they had cheated while 86 per cent believed their other half had always been faithful.

And despite the box-office and bookshop success of Fifty Shades Of Grey, wild experimentation and outrageous fantasies do not feature on most women’s wishlists, while porn is regarded as a turn-off.

Even though shopping and holidays trump sex for many, the survey shows women in midlife treasure a relationship based on trust and honesty, with romance and a decent conversation right up there with physical passion.

Of the 2000 women questioned in the You magazine survey, 95 per cent said they would opt for true love over great sex.

Sisters Mary, 27, and Olivia Scullin, 19, were not surprised the majority of women chose shopping over sex.

The Randwick shopaholics both agreed that retail therapy was one activity that always guaranteed satisfaction.

“It’s safer, it’s enjoyable, it’s stress-free and you can have time to yourself,” Mary said.

“You can also return things when you go shopping.”

Asked whether she would also prefer a holiday over sex, Mary replied: “Oh God, yeah. I’d literally go anywhere.”

Olivia said she’d always pick retail therapy because it “makes you feel better about yourself”.

“I think when you buy something you feel good about yourself — you feel like you’ve earned it most of the time,” she said.

“It’s just about yourself. You can be a little bit selfish.”
