Record number of Aussie models to strut their stuff at Miami Swim Week

IT’S considered the world’s biggest swimwear show and this year a record number of Aussie models are at Miami Swim Week. Sunday Confidential’s Briana Domjen chats to Natalie Roser.

AS Sydneysiders shiver through another winter’s day, a record seven Aussie models will be stripping down to their bikinis and turning up the heat at Miami Swim Week.

Former Miss Universe Australia Natalie Roser is among those strutting the runway for what is considered the world’s biggest swimwear show.

Roser, who is walking for the third time in Miami, will be joined by Sydney born models Georgia Gibbs, Steph Rayner, Mary Vitanaros, Shannon Lawson, Sarah Kohan, Nadia Fairfax and Natasha Oakley.

The strong Aussie contingent is testament to our reputation overseas for producing strong, confident and diverse models.

“I think a lot of the designers are looking for good energy so I like to think we bring that for them,” Roser, who is working for seven swimwear brands said.

“I walk in to a casting, knowing the brand and knowing their vibe. This will determine the type of walk I will present. If they’re fun a flirty, that’s the walk I’ll do in the casting.

“I also think that the designers of swim week respond really well to a fit and healthy body shape, which Australian girls have.”

It’s not just local models who are working in Miami, Australian fashion agency Fashion Palette will hold a show on Sunday which will showcase five Aussie brands including TJ Swim, Aqua Blu, VDM The Label, Lil & Emm and Frankie Swimwear.

“Australia has some of the world’s best swim brands and I am proud to be representing such an amazing cross section of local talent in Miami for the first time,” Fashion Palette Founder, Sonya Mefaddi said.

Kaftan brand Camilla is set to stage a party at the Faena Hotel Miami Beach to celebrate the official launch of their RTW and resort collection; The Girl I Was, The Woman I Am.
