Forget spring, it will feel more like summer this weekend with temperatures heading for 30 degrees in our west.
A large high-pressure system from the east is bringing highs of 28 degrees on Saturday and 29 degrees on Sunday for suburbs around Penrith, Richmond and Liverpool.
The sea breeze will keep coastal suburbs down to more like 25 degrees.
“As the high-pressure system moves over the Tasman Sea, it will be met with a cold front approaching from the west,” BOM meteorologist Stephen Stefanac said.
“These two systems will produce warm to very warm north-westerly winds. They will be fresh and gusty as well. It’s basically dragging heat down from Northern Australia.”
A cooler change will enter southern NSW later on Sunday and will reach Sydney on Monday, with temperatures dropping to around 17 degrees with a shower or two in the afternoon.
“For this time of the year, it’s not atypical in September to get warm outbreaks like this,” Mr Stefanac said.
“The only thing is that with global warming, this sort of weather and the frequency of these events earlier in the season can increase. But as far as intensity this time of year, it’s not atypical.”
