Following a Covid scare on set, Natalie Barr and David Koch are refusing to get their hair and makeup done by unvaccinated crew.

Sunrise stars David Koch and Natalie Barr are refusing to have their hair and makeup done by crew members who are not vaccinated.

It comes after co-host Edwina Bartholomew was forced into two weeks isolation after coming into contact with a Covid-positive Sunrise crew member. The staff member was fully vaccinated.

Many of the morning show’s hair and makeup staff are freelancers, sparking concern they could bring the virus from other programs, according to The Australian.

Koch, Barr and Bartholomew, as well as the show’s executive producer Michael Pell, are double vaxxed and leading the pro-vax charge.

At least one hair and makeup artist who is unvaccinated has been barred from working on the show, the newspaper reports.

HOW TV STARS GET THEIR DONE IN LOCKDOWN

While overgrown hair and exposed roots are the new norm for most women in Sydney and Melbourne’s ongoing lockdowns, TV presenters are still looking picture perfect.

From Ten’s Carrie Bickmore, Lisa Wilkinson, Sandra Sully to Nine’s Allison Langdon and Rebecca Maddern, and Seven’s Natalie Barr and Edwina Bartholomew – there’s not a grey or strip of roots to be seen.

A Nine spokesperson explained media and journalism had an exemption under the current health order and, therefore, due to the nature of productions, hair and make-up artists were considered authorised workers.

The rule applies to other TV networks including Seven, Ten, the ABC and SBS.

“The hair and makeup teams are regularly tested and screened for Covid,” the spokesperson said.

“They have been supplied PPE that they are required to wear while working.

“They have also undergone additional industry-lead Covid training to reinforce the required protocols.”

The spokesperson stressed Nine was taking its Covid safe plan extremely seriously, with onsite testing. Other networks also said they follow a similar process.

“Everyone entering the hair and makeup area are asked to undertake a PCR swab test 72 hours before they have their appointment,” they said.

“Nine has also recently commenced Rapid Antigen Testing onsite. Nine’s on-air talent are Covid tested twice weekly.”

While the major network presenters were taken care of under the exemption, a whole host of other celebrities and influences are without their usual access to high-end beauty treatments.

From Jesinta Franklin to Jessica Rowe, Mia Freedman and Melissa Leong, A-listers have been forced to take matters into their own hands.

At-home haircuts and supermarket box dyes have taken the place of treatments with high-end stylists.

Like most others in lockdown, Franklin has had to go without her usual salon visits.

The 29-year-old model cut her own glossy brown hair at home while on Facetime with her stylist.

“I got a hair cut … via FaceTime with @dianegorgievski. The things we do in lockdown. Who else is missing their hairdresser!?,” she captioned her video.

Jessica Rowe similarly gave her pink hair a workover, enlisting husband newsreader Peter Overton’s help.

‘Definition of true love … when your husband helps colour the back of your hair even though he hates it pink!!’ she captioned a photo of her hair being done.

Like Rowe, media personality Mia Freedman also used a dye delivery service recently to colour her roots back to brunette.

“So I did my roots,” Freedman captioned her Instagram video. “I was due for a cut and colour right before lockdown. And last time I stuffed my hair by dyeing it too dark at home. This time I bought an at-home customised colour kit. I think we can all agree that no hairdresser has to watch their back after watching this video.”

MasterChef judge Leong shared a pic with her fabulously bobbed locks and their new balayage effect.

“This week’s lockdown hair shad is called ‘peach blond’, and I’m not mad at it.

“an excellent colour/toning stop gap for not being able to see your colourist while this s**t show continues.”

While PR queen Roxy Jacenko just complained she’s missing her old look.

“A facial and a hairdo would be appreciated right now – I’m starting not to recognise myself lol this DIY thing ain’t my jam,” she wrote alongside a glam throwback photo.
