Woman dead after two-vehicle crash on Tweed Valley Way at Dunbible in Tweed Shire on Monday afternoon

A woman has tragically died in a collision at an intersection on a major Tweed road while another is in critical condition. See the latest.

A woman has died and another is in hospital suffering from serious injuries after a horror crash at a rural Tweed intersection, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash on Tweed Valley Way in Dunbible, in the vicinity of the Minnows Rd intersection, about 2.30pm (Monday 6 February 2023).

An 80-year-old driver of a Honda Jazz died at the scene while a 30-year-old woman driving a Subaru Outback was airlifted to Lismore Base Hospital, suffering multiple fractures and internal injuries, and remains in a critical condition.

Officers from Tweed-Byron Police District established a crime scene, which was forensically examined by officers attached to the Far North Coast Crash Investigation Unit.

Traffic on Tweed Valley Way was disrupted for six hours with diversions in place.

It’s not known at this stage how the collision occurred.

Police have urged members of the public to come forward with any information or dashcam footage as investigations continue.

Dunbible is located about 10 minutes drive south of Murwillumbah.
