A Gold Coast developer has lodged plans for a new service station on Minjungbal Dr, which if approved would be the fifth on the road.
Oakgrove Investments director Gabrielle Mylonas said she was certain there was space for the development despite existing spots to fuel up.
The application for a service station including a convenience store was lodged with Tweed Shire Council in late October.
The estimated $2.5 million development is planned for a vacant block of land.
Inside the store part of the development will be the typical hot and cold food and groceries found at a petrol station.
Ms Mylonas said she had been approached by a number of fuel suppliers interested in operating on the block, showing demand for the service station.
Travelling north bound, the proposed development would be the first motorists passed once exiting the highway.
“It’s not unusual for (petrol stations) to all be in proximity to each other,” Ms Mylonas said.
“There might be a few suburban ones, but generally people travel to the centre of town for their fuel.”
The application proposes a 24 hour service station with one staff member at all hours, however Ms Mylonas said the station would not necessarily be open all day and night.
If approved she said they would be engaging local tradespeople for the build and had already engaged local consultants for the proposal.
