Search for two swimmers in distress off Fingal was for a false alarm

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, police, ambulance and Marine Rescue all attended the scene after reports of two swimmers in distress.

A rescue effort is underway on Sunday afternoon after reports of two swimmers in distress on the North Coast were made just before 4pm.

However NSW Police have confirmed the reports made were a false alarm.

Far North Coast Surf Lifesaving have reported police, paramedics and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter have attended the scene searching the waters offshore of Fingal Headland.

A New South Wales Ambulance spokesman said on Sunday afternoon while the search was underway that were no signs of any missing people.
