The great-granddaughter of the Tweed Shire’s pioneering Sullivan family is selling a trophy home with historic links at Tweed Heads South, which is expected to set a price record.
The 2022 price record for Tweed Heads South was $2 million, but sources expect the property will exceed that by a mile.
Sarah Robinson snapped up the 18 Marie St property overlooking the old family farm about 20 years ago because it used to be part of the family estate.
The Sullivan family settled in the Tweed way back in 1892.
Real estate agents in the know have tipped the property will set a sale price record for the suburb when it goes under the hammer on September 28.
The four-storey, six-bedroom mansion with Italian marble floors and a heated infinity pool has views all the way to Fingal Head.
Ms Robinson, born Sullivan, grew up on the formerly 400 acre property and said the purchase was a sentimental one for her and her husband Bruce Robinson.
“From the house, we can even see the whales breaching,” she said.
“I know another family or couple will love it as much as Bruce and I.”
The couple bought the property in 2003 before building their dream home overlooking the ancestral farm.
The couple’s kids have grown up and the empty nesters are looking to downsize.
“It’s just time,” Sarah said.
They’ll continue to own and operate their popular Pioneer Country wedding venue, which sits on the Sullivan farm below.
“We won’t be going far, probably just up the road to Coolangatta or Kirra, but this place will always be special to me,” Ms Robinson said.
“The farm holds so many memories and I’ve absolutely loved being perched up on the hill, looking at the grazing cattle, wide open green spaces and having 220 degree ocean views.”
The Sullivans are well known in the northern NSW region. The family inspired the names of Sullivan St at Tweed Heads South and Sullivan Memorial Park along Terranora inlet and James St which leads up to Marie S.
Ray White selling agent Jessica Otto said it was “impossible to put a realistic price tag” on the mansion.
“There’s truly nothing like it in The Tweed region,” she said.
“It’s far and away one of the most beautiful homes I’ve ever stepped foot in.
“There’s already a lot of interstate interest in the property from Victoria and the ACT, and from Sydney.”
