A 17-year-old boy has died in hospital after he suffered critical injuries in a single-vehicle crash in the state’s north.

A 17-year-old boy has died in hospital after he suffered critical injuries in a horrific single vehicle crash in the state’s north.

Emergency services were called to Clothiers Creek Rd at Bogangar (Cabarita) in the Tweed about 11pm on Saturday, September 21.

“Officers attended the scene and found a vehicle had left the roadway and crashed into trees,” NSW Police said in a statement.

The 17-year-old driver was treated by Queensland Ambulance paramedics and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Tweed/Byron Police District set up a crime scene and launched an investigation.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner after the teen’s death on Thursday, which comes as police have appealed to motorists to stay safe as school holidays begins.

Acting Assistant Commissioner David Driver, Commander of the Traffic and Highway Patrol, said police wanted everyone to get their destination safely.

“Our officers will be out in force over the entirety of the school holidays conducting speed enforcement along with random breath testing and drug testing and will not tolerate actions that put other road users at risk,” he said.

“Please be patient and allow extra travel time with enough planned rest breaks.

“Police will also perform additional patrols on the major thoroughfares and coastal roads.”

Police state as of Wednesday 221 fatal crashes had left 244 dead in NSW, compared to 220 crashes and 248 lives lost at the same period last year.
