Nathan Windley: Drug dealer’s threats exposed after police phone tap

Police phone intercepts have revealed the violent words of a Tweed drug dealer, with one passage laying out his threats to smash a man’s head in.

Australia's growing drug crisis

A Chinderah man who was dealing meth in the Tweed and on the Gold Coast came unstuck when police traced his phone for 60 days, recording texts and calls with violent threats.

Nathan James Windley, 35, pleaded guilty in Tweed Heads Local Court on December 17 to supplying a prohibited drug on an ongoing basis and attempt to acquire a firearm in contravention of a firearms prohibition.

Nine counts of supplying a prohibited drug, acquiring ammunition when subject to a prohibition order and dealing with proceeds of crime were admitted to and will be considered on sentence in form 1 proceedings.

Court documents reveal in September and October 2020 Windley was living at a Chinderah residence where the offending took place.

He was 34 at the time.

Police issued a phone warrant on September 17, 2020 and Windley was monitored for 60 days.

Between September 18 and October 2, Windley was involved in 18 supplies of crystal meth, nine of which were for finance or material reward and nine which were ongoing.

Windley supplied a total of 56g of meth to more than 15 people over 14 days, making $26,275.

Documents reveal Windley would source larger amounts of meth from the Gold Coast and sell on smaller amounts, however he did sell up to 14g on two occasions.

Texts show him selling half an ounce for $6000, a ball for $2000, 9.5g for $4500, another ball for $2000, a ball to a woman who would pay a week later, half an ounce again for $6000, $700 worth and a half a ball for a person broking supply for another friend and various smaller amounts.

A phone transcript reveals where one supply sold “on tick” – to be paid later – went bad.

Drug deal transcript

According to court papers the following transcript of a conversation between Nathan Windley and a woman was recorded by police during a phone warrant execution on October 20, 2020 at 9.20am

Windley: Mmm you never gave me 880 bucks.

Woman: What do I have to lie about, that, I’m not a liar and I don’t lie. I can’t lie.

Windley: Neither am I, I’m a drug dealer and you got drugs off me c**t, alright.

Woman: I know I did.

Windley: Yeah so f**kin' pay for them. Pay for them.

Woman: I have —

Windley: You haven’t paid for the f**kin’ ball, no you haven’t. What are you tryin' to say that you owe me no f**kin’ money?

Woman: No I’m not saying that, I said I owed 920 and that's what I calculated.

Windley: From f**kin’ what?

Woman: Because I gave a half ball back basically.

Windley: A half ball’s seventeen hundred, seventeen hundred bucks (inaudible).

Another call recorded at 2.20pm the same day:

Windley: The ball that you f**kin' got off me, you gave me no f**kin' money for it alright c**t. I dont give a f**k, I don’t give a f**k who you know c**t, I don’t give a f**k okay, you owe me money f**kwit.

Woman: Are you serious? I’m not like that.

Windley: Alright and I’m about to come around and smash your brother’s head in for it. Okay.

Woman: Yeah well that’s wrong because he’s got epilepsy and he’s got nothing to do with it.

Windley: I don’t give a f**k c**t, pay the f**kin’ money you owe.

Woman: I don’t have it.

Windley: Why can’t you f**kin’ do what, you know you wanna get something on tick c**t f**kin’ pay it. This is why sh*t like this happens.

Woman: I don’t have it.

Windley: C**ts get their f**kin’ heads kicked in.

Windley: Right you owe me f**kin’ money and f**kin’ pay it. Okay and tell f**kin’ (inaudible).. I want that f**kin’ want that jumper lead pack back okay. I don’t know why, I don't know how you think you don’t owe me f**kin’ money.

According to court documents Windley attempted to acquire a 12 gauge shotgun despite being served with a prohibition in April, 2018.

A crime scene was declared at an Anne St, Chinderah address on December 18, 2020 where police located one round of shotgun ammunition and two gold coloured rounds of ammunition. One of the rounds was loaded into a barrel.

Windley was stopped on December 29 as a passenger of a black Mercedes where he produced $1058.75 in cash which was reasonably suspected of being from drug sales.

Police also seized two mobile phones.

Windley’s case will next be before the Lismore District Court for sentence on February 7, 2022.

He remains in custody.
