Kelly Anne Bowman pleads guilty to most charges

An I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! staffer who travelled to Northern NSW while Covid positive has pleaded guilty to most of her charges, but one thing is holding the case back.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

A makeup artist at the centre of a Northern NSW Covid lockdown has pleaded guilty to five of six charges she faces.

Kelly Anne Bowman, 32, was not required to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court when her matters were mentioned on Monday.

Defence lawyer Michael Hempsall entered guilty pleas on her behalf to five counts of failing to comply with electronic registration directive.

The Rushcutters Bay woman also faces one count of not complying with permit conditions which she has not pleaded to.

Bowman was granted a Covid-19 exemption to travel to Northern NSW to work on reality TV show I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in September, 2021.

Police allege she breached her exemption conditions on September 18 and 19 by visiting several businesses and venues in Byron Bay and Kingscliff.

At the time of the alleged offence Bowman was positive with Covid-19 which resulted in the North Coast going into a lockdown.

She has pleaded guilty to not checking-in at Combi Byron Bay, Salt & Pepper Wanderlust Byron Bay, Assembly Label Byron Bay, Rowie Byron Bay and Salt Cellars Kingscliff.

Mr Hempsall told the court the defence was still waiting on the police to provide a single piece of evidence which would prove the remaining offence had been committed.

“If the (officer-in-charge) can provide that, we will enter a plea of guilty,” Mr Hempsall said.

The case was adjourned to January 17, 2022.
