A Casuarina father has been in a coma and fighting for his life after his car left the road and crashed in the Tweed.
The Tweed Shire community has rallied behind Ben Rohleder and his family after the horror Clothiers Creek Rd incident, which occurred about 2km from his home about midnight on July 14.
Mr Rohleder was driving home from a work event in Brisbane at the time.
The 39-year-old man was found by a woman passing by about half an hour after the crash, according to a Facebook post.
“I was first on the scene and called emergency services just after 12.30am Friday. My love, thoughts and support is with Ben’s family,” she wrote.
A helicopter flew Mr Rohleder to Gold Coast University Hospital, suffering from a brain injury, multiple punctured organs and a shattered pelvis.
Friends of the Rohleder family have helped organise a GoFundMe fundraiser, which has gathered more than $50,000 in three days.
Mr Rohleder’s wife Courtney Rohleder is seven months pregnant and has been by his side while family and friends help care for their young children.
Friends assisting the family, who are “gobsmacked” by the show of support, have reported Mr Rohleder’s recovery hit a setback when major surgery was unable to be carried out in recent days.
