Tweed parents and students have been put on high alert after the third alleged school student stranger danger sighting this week.

St Joseph’s College Banora Point principal Scott Thompson sent a letter to parents on Wednesday afternoon to alert them of a student who had been approached by two men in an ute.

“We have just spoken with a year eight student who was approached by two men in a white ute (on Tuesday 17th May 2022) near the bus stop on the southbound side of the road adjacent to Salt Village, Kingscliff,” Mr Thompson said.

“The time was 5.30pm and the student, after refusing their advances and messaging her mother, watched the ute wait nearby for close to 5 minutes.”

Mr Thompson noted this was the third incident regarding stranger danger this week across the Tweed region.

“The first two were in Terranora and the most recent in Kingscliff,” he wrote.

“Again, it is paramount that you talk to your child about stranger danger and looking after their own personal safety when not accompanied by a parent or carer.

“Our teachers will continue to discuss safety and stranger danger with our students.”

NSW Police said the 14-year-old-girl was waiting at the bus stop at the intersection of Casuarina Way and Longboard Circuit when a white single-cab-utility stopped nearby.

The male driver (spoke) with the teenage girl for a short time before driving away,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

“Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District were notified and have commenced an investigation.”

“As inquiries continue, police are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage from Casuarina Way or Longboard Circuit between 5.30pm and 6pm on Tuesday 17 May 2022 to contact police.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
