A teenage boy allegedly murdered while camping with mates has been farewelled on what should have been his 16th birthday.
Isaac Daniel Walton was killed while spending the night in the bush at Wilton, south of Sydney, last month.
His distraught father Paul told a room full of mourners at Belgenny Farm, Camden, on Monday that it was not the 16th birthday he imagined for his adored son.
“We all wish this was just a bad dream,” Mr Walton said, as he read the eulogy he “never imagined having to give”.
Mr Walton said Isaac’s mates were the centre of his universe and he loved nothing more than being them. “He gave everyone his time, that’s the sort of kid he was,” he said.
Isaac and about 10 mates set off on November 8 for an overnight stay at Maldon Weir, not far from his home in the Wollondilly Shire.
During the evening, a few mates decided not to stay, and walked back to the road where they were collected by parents.
Police said Isaac escorted the friends to the road, where he allegedly got into a confrontation with local sports club chef Jacob Greig, 32, who was sitting in a parked car.
During the altercation, Greig allegedly stabbed Isaac in the arm, then left the scene without rendering any assistance the profusely bleeding teen.
Isaac’s body was discovered the next morning lying in long grass beside the road. Greig has been charged with his murder.
Mr Walton spoke of the night before the camping trip when Isaac was looking into the fridge for food to pack, memories he will always cherish.
“I was fussing over him, telling him to take the small frying pan so he could warm up the pre-done pancakes for he and his friends ... or he could cook the sausages,” Mr Walton said.
“No, no dad ... it’s OK,” Isaac replied, according to his dad.
“I later found out he got KFC on the way”,” Mr Walton said with a laugh.
Mourners heard how Isaac was due to start an electrician apprenticeship next year, and had a new girlfriend.

“We all have our own stories or funny tales of Isaac, and I ask you to never let those fade,” Mr Walton said.
