Confronting CCTV footage has captured the moment a man allegedly attempted to kill his step-father by mowing him down in a violent rampage in Sydney’s west.

Mark Morgan, 30, has been charged with attempting to murder his stepfather Farag Barsoum, 70, at about 3.40pm on Sunday afternoon outside their home on The Parade, Telopea.

Footage of the attack obtained by 7 News shows Mr Morgan dragging Mr Barsoum outside and kicking him in the face. Police say he later ran him down before driving off.

Neighbours described hearing a “loud bang” and “screams” during the alleged domestic incident.

A neighbour who would prefer to remain unnamed said he saw a man walk up the street before returning and getting into a white car, believed to be a Toyota Camry.

“We heard a loud bang and screams,” he told NCA NewsWire.

He said a man got into a white car, drove up the road and did a U-turn before coming back, .

“Then we heard the thud,” the neighbour said.

“And then I saw him just walk up the street. He just walked off, he wasn’t running.”

The neighbour, who has lived on the “quiet street” for more than 20 years, said dozens of emergency vehicles flooded the area.

Police will allege in court Mr Barsoum was thrown “three to four metres” by the impact and knocked unconscious, before being taken to hospital with significant head and facial injuries.

Mr Barsoum remains in hospital for treatment, and court documents list the 70 year-old lives at the same address as his alleged attacker.

Another local resident named Catherine told The Daily Telegraph the home’s residents were a nice family who “kept to themselves”.

“I’ve lived here 11 years, they’ve been here even longer … we’ve seen some funky stuff on this street but they’ve always been a nice family, they keep to themselves,” she said.

“They always say hello when they see us on the street … it’s shocking this would happen.”

Police allege Mr Morgan left the scene on foot before breaking into a house on Honiton Avenue East in Carlingford where they say he caused $50,000 damage by smashing furniture and a window.

Roslynne Rendle, who lives next door, told NCA NewsWire her daughter and boyfriend were home at the time of the incident.

“They said they could hear a lot of commotion and a confrontation between two men (out the back of the home),” she said.

“(My daughter) said she heard a big crash.

“They didn’t know what was going on but they were concerned enough to call the police.”

She said the homeowners were out celebrating a birthday when the alleged break in occurred and that they have no connection to Mr Morgan.

Ms Rendle said it was unclear why the home was targeted.

“They are really quiet people and you couldn’t imagine anyone breaking into their place,” Ms Rendle said.

A resident of the home that was broken into declined to be interviewed but described the episode as “traumatic” and “frightening”.

Police attempted to arrest Mr Morgan at the scene in Carlingford but police allege he resisted before assaulting a female officer.

He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment for cuts to his head before he was released and transported to Chatswood police station where he was charged with attempted murder (domestic violence), break and enter to commit malicious damage, and assaulting police.

He fronted Hornsby Local Court on Tuesday and will reappear there on March 23.
