SYDNEY commuters have endured a wet journey home, with constant rain and flash flooding continuing to hit the city.

A spokesman from the Bureau of Meteorology said troughs moving across the state are responsible for the rain, which is expected to last until the weekend.

“We should see some rain coming early afternoon and getting heavier through the night,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“Although we will see pretty steady rainfall, we are not expecting storms.”

The spokesman added weather conditions will begin to clear on Friday and should return to normal by Saturday.

Between 20 to 30mm of rain is expected to fall in Sydney over the next two days, which will bring the city closer to October 55mm average.

The Bureau forecasts heavy rain to start falling from 10pm Thursday and warns the drenching could bring flash flooding to eastern parts of the Sydney Metropolitan and on the Central Coast.
