THE older brother of Kings Cross identity John Ibrahim, Hassan “Sam” Ibrahim, has been sentenced to nine years in jail for his role in a gun racket with a former rock ‘n’ roll drummer and is facing the prospect of being deported upon his release.

THE older brother of Kings Cross identity John Ibrahim, Hassan “Sam” Ibrahim, has been sentenced to nine years in jail for his role in a gun racket with a former rock’n’roll drummer and is facing the prospect of being deported upon his release.

The 54-year-old could be sent back to Lebanon, where he was born, when his non-parole period of six years and six months is up after Immigration Minister Peter Dutton cancelled his transitional permanent visa in 2015.

Ibrahim will be eligible for release in just three years after his sentence was backdated for time already spent in jail since his arrest on the gun supply charge in 2014.

The Daily Telegraph understands Ibrahim will serve out his sentence in a state prison but upon his release could immediately be detained by immigration officials and deported.

During the former bikie boss’ sentencing in the NSW Downing Centre District Court on Friday Judge Anthony Blackmore made note of the deportation issue.

“The offender stands to be deported on release from custody but this is not a relevant factor I can take into account on sentencing,” Judge Blackwood said.

“It may well cause the offender a degree of stress for the duration of his incarceration but that is something the offender will have to address when he is released.”

Ibrahim, 54, had pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to supply firearms in syndicate with former Rose Tattoo drummer Paul DeMarco, his sister Jazz Dior and her partner, Elvis Mileski following his arrest in 2014.

During his sentencing hearing in December last year Ibrahim’s barrister Peter Lange tried to downplay his client’s role describing him as an “enthusiastic middle man”.

On Friday Judge Blackmore deemed otherwise describing Ibrahim as the “controlling mind” of the conspiracy to supply an undercover police officer with five Glock pistols in early 2014.

“He was the moving part behind this conspiracy and one could say he was the controlling mind of it,” he said.

“The conspiracy involved a significant degree of preparation and planning and significant connections were needed within the criminal community.

“The offenders role was to act as a link between Mileski and Dior. He was supplying the money for the purchase (of the guns).

“DeMarco was the one trying to sell the weapons but he was relying on this offender to supply the weapons.”

According to an agreed statement of facts intercepted phone calls and police surveillance found that Ibrahim, Mileski, and Dior “actively planned and conducted” negotiations to get guns for Demarco which were then sold to an undercover officer.

DeMarco, Ibrahim, Dior and Mileski were arrested in April 2014, after raids in Sydney and Wollongong.

Police surveillance recorded the syndicate discussing their plans to supply five Glocks in 2014, but the plot never came to fruition after the group was infiltrated by an undercover police officer.

Judge Blackmore recommended Ibrahim for release when he is non-parole period finishes in June 2021 to allow him a better chance at overcoming his drug addiction.

Ibrahim has been in custody for three years and nine months since his arrest in 2014.
