NRL star Jai Arrow apologises after his dog Thor attacked a mini-schnauzer

South Sydney Rabbitohs player Jai Arrow has apologised after his American staffordshire terrier Thor attacked a miniature schnauzer at Bronte Beach.

NRL star Jai Arrow has apologised after his beloved American staffordshire terrier, Thor, mauled a small dog on Bronte Beach and landed him in trouble with the police.

Arrow, who wasn’t there when the attack occurred, has offered to pay the victim’s vet bills, saying his dog had never previously attacked another dog.

“We deeply apologise to the family and the dog for this incident,” Arrow said.

“We never meant for anything like this to happen. It’s the first time anything like this has happened with him.

“Dogs are very much part of people’s families and, hopefully, we can help with the other dog’s recovery.

“We’ve been in contact with the council and police and we’ve offered to pay for all expenses and vet bills relating to this incident. It’s very unfortunate that this has happened and, again, we apologise for any distress that my dog has caused. Hopefully, the dog can make a full recovery.”

The South Sydney Rabbitohs star was in hospital at the time. His flatmate, Rabbitohs forward Liam Knight, took the “amstaff” for a walk with a rottweiler.

Images on social media showed the shocking injuries the black miniature schnauzer sustained in the attack at Bronte Beach promenade about 7.15pm on Monday. Thor was off his lead at the time.

A Waverly Council press release on the attack claimed the “owner” of the amstaff, (meaning Knight) left the scene following the attack.

The Sunday Telegraph was unable to contact Knight for comment.

The injured dog’s owner, Kate Muir, said she also suffered minor injuries trying to protect her dog.

Arrow and Knight have been interviewed by police and council inspectors. The Rabbitohs have reported the incident to the NRL integrity unit, which is monitoring the situation.

Police have also taken over the investigation.

No charges have yet been laid. Amstaffs were responsible for more than 200 attacks in NSW in the first half of 2021, including a horrific incident in which one killed a baby on the Central Coast.

Ms Muir this week said she was left with a $10,000 vet bill for the injuries left to her dog, Millie.

“There was no wanting to smell or coming in for a play. It was coming for an attack,” she said.

“I attempted to pick Millie up but the dog has latched on to Millie’s right-hand side and shoulder and upper leg and knocked me to the ground, so I now have injuries to my hand and face.”
