Madeleine Rose Young charged after teenage girl allegedly kidnapped at Greenacre

A second woman has been charged after a group of adults allegedly kidnapped a teenager and set her headscarf on fire in southwest Sydney, a court has heard.

An Ermington woman has denied allegations of being part of a group of people who kidnapped and assaulted a 14-year-old girl over 36 hours at Parramatta and Greenacre in July.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad started investigating reports the teen had allegedly been held hostage for several hours, assaulted and plied with drugs between July 5 and 6.

So far during the investigation, a man, 39, and woman, Elham Naaman, 24, have been charged for their alleged roles in the incident at a Parramatta hotel, Greenacre and other locations. They remain before the courts.

Police allege Miss Naaman, who is defending charges, met the child at a party and then caught up again on Saturday, July 5, but things went very differently to how the girl presumed when they met at a Parramatta hotel.

Over the next 36 hours she would allegedly be detained at the hotel, a Greenacre unit and other locations, and during her ordeal be drugged, sexually and physically assaulted, and intimidated.

This month, a court heard the girl was allegedly held against her will and plied with drugs including ice and GHB. She was also allegedly injected with heroin.

Miss Naaman was charged with several offences, none which are related to sexual assault.

On Wednesday, police arrested 25-year-old Madeleine Rose Young at Ermington just after 8pm.

She was taken to Parramatta police station and charged with kidnap in company with intent serious indictable occasion actual bodily harm, stalk and intimidate intend fear of physical or mental harm (personal violence offence), and intentionally or recklessly damage property by fire/explosive with intent to injure

She was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday when she appeared via video link and a bail application was made.

The police prosecution opposed bail, citing that Miss Young played an active role in the alleged offence and blocked the “vulnerable’’ child from leaving the Greenacre home.

Defence lawyer Joseph Harb said the “strange and serious’’ set of facts did not all apply to Miss Young, who is fighting the charges.

“A significant portion of the facts, in my submission, don’t relate to this accused person,’’ he said.

That included accusations Miss Young did not set the girl’s headscarf alight and Miss Naaman allegedly torched it.

“She (Miss Young) denies that she tries to prevent the complainant from leaving the residence,’’ Mr Harb said.

The court heard Miss Young would comply with strict bail conditions and had a criminal history but included larceny and non-serious matters.

However, Magistrate David Price said she posed unacceptable risk and supported the prosecution’s submission she would fail to attend court appearances and their concerns over interfering with witnesses and evidence.

The matter for Miss Young and the co-accused was adjourned to Bankstown Court on December 1.

Investigations under Strike Force Tumbridge are continuing, and further arrests are expected.
