Karrar Abdul Karim eighth man to be charged after Merrylands shooting at William St

A man has been the eighth to be arrested following his alleged role in a shooting outside a house in Sydney’s west. Watch footage before he is charged.

A Westmead man has been the eighth to be charged over an alleged shooting outside a Merrylands home, which includes a conspiracy to kidnap and murder another man following an alleged dispute between two groups over drugs and money.

Karrar Abdul Karim, 24, was charged over an alleged role in a public shooting at William St involving Nomads OMCG Parramatta.

State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad started investigating the public shooting and the investigation revealed shots were allegedly returned from the home at a white Mazda, which then left the scene and for which police are still searching.

As part of ongoing investigations, North West Region Operation Talon officers arrested Mr Karim following an alleged chase at Westmead about 9pm on Thursday.

During a subsequent search, police will allege they seized 1g of methamphetamine, a semiautomatic pistol and mobile phone that will undergo further forensic examination.

He was taken to Parramatta police station and charged with fire firearm at dwelling-house with disregard for safety, possess unauthorised firearm, and possess prohibited drug.

Police allege the man was involved in the shooting at Merrylands, before leaving the area in the Mazda.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Friday, when he was remanded in custody, and the matter adjourned to October 21.

Mr Karim’s charges follows seven arrests into the incident starting a day after the shooting when detectives arrested five men aged between 20 and 28, at a house at Yennora.

Four of the men – aged 20, 22 and two aged 24 – were charged with participate criminal group contribute criminal activity and fail to comply requirement public health order – Covid-19. They remain before the court.

The 28-year-old man – who is a high-ranking member of the Nomads OMCG Parramatta – was charged with conspire and agree to murder any person, kidnap in company with intent serious indictable occasion actual bodily harm, and fail to comply requirement public health order – Covid-19.

Police will allege in court that the man was involved in planning the kidnap and murder of another man.

Investigators have since laid an additional charge of fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property and possess unauthorised firearm.

It will be further alleged the man shot at a white Mazda seen leaving the Merrylands home following the public place shooting.

The man has been formally refused bail to next appear at Fairfield Court on November 10.

Following further inquiries, a sixth man, aged 48, – was arrested at Granville on October 6 and charged with take person intend commit serious indictable offence, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, and conspire and agree to murder any person.

He has been formally refused bail to next at Parramatta Local Court on November 10.

A 23-year-old man was charged on October 7 for his alleged role in the incident. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Fairfield Court on October 21.

Criminal Groups Squad Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor said: “My message to outlaw motorcycle groups is if you involve yourself in violent crime, shootings at people or houses, you will be hunted down and your liberty will be taken away from you.

Investigations continue.
