YOUNG music makers on the Northern Rivers have only nine days left to enter the 2013 Young Songwriters Competition.

Lismore City Council youth and community development officer Lizette Twisleton said the competition was judged during Youth Week, in April, and gave young musicians a chance to show off their songwriting, musical, and performance skills.

Among the prized up for grabs are recording time at the School of Audio Engineering at Byron Bay, microphones, leads, a BOSE sound system, and a professional photo shoot.

"Having a live panel of judges is a great change this year - it makes it more interactive and it means young people will perform to an audience of people who already work in the music industry," Ms Twisleton said.

"Not only does that stretch young people to do better but it also fosters contacts between working musicians and young people striving to break into the industry."

Entries for the Young Songwriters Competition can be submitted until March 24.

For information on the competition, phone Ms Twisleton on 1300 87 83 87, email her or check out the Lismore Young Songwriters Competition Facebook page.
