Woman dies after being struck by car in Lismore’s CBD

She has not yet been be formally identified, but she was believed to be in her 70s.

Update 6.20pm: A woman has died after being hit by a car at Molesworth St in Lismore.

A NSW Police spokesperson said about 3.20pm on Wednesday, emergency services were called to Molesworth Street following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the road.
Members of the public, including nearby off-duty medical staff, rendered assistance to the woman prior to NSW Ambulance paramedics arrival, the spokesperson explained.
“She was taken to Lismore Base Hospital with serious injuries, however, she died a short time later,” she said.

“She is yet to be formally identified, but believed to be aged in her 70s.”

The driver, a woman believed to be aged in her 50s, was also taken to Lismore Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Richmond Police District established a crime scene which will be forensically examined by investigators attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing and anyone with information or dashcam vision in the area is urged to come forward.

Update 4.45pm: NSW Police has initiated an investigation into an incident in Lismore’s CBD near Lismore Memorial Baths on Wednesday afternoon.

A NSW Police spokeswoman confirmed emergency services were called to Molesworth St near Anzac Close just after 3.20pm.

A woman, believed to be in her 70s, had been struck by a car while walking across the street.

“Members of the public, including off duty medical personnel, came to her help prior to NSW Ambulance crews arriving to the scene,” she said.

“The woman was transported to Lismore Base Hospital with possible fractures and internal injuries in a serious condition.

“The driver was also taken to Lismore Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

“Richmond Police District has established a crime scene in the area and an investigation has been commenced with the crash investigations unit.”

No details were available regarding the person driving the vehicle.

“She will be transported to Lismore Base Hospital,” he said.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said the person treated for injuries, who was described as “elderly”, was conscious and breathing normally.

“The person who was driving the car was also been taken to Lismore Base Hospital for mandatory testing,” she said.
