WHEN a tornado ripped through Lennox Head about 7.30am on June 3, 2010, The Northern Star quickly had a reporter and a photographer on the scene.
Within an hour the Star had photographs, footage and first-hand accounts from the devastated village.
We walked the streets and spoke to locals, who described hiding in their bathrooms as the tornado hit with a "huge, roaring sound".
Our website was continually updated with new information.
The village suffered major damage that day.
We were there during the huge and expensive task of cleaning up, which involved specialist asbestos workers.
Then NSW Premier, Kristina Kenneally, flew to Lennox Head to inspect the damage and declare the region a natural disaster zone.
But The Northern Star also reported on the strong community spirit. Neighbours cooked for each other and charities offered food and accommodation for those affected by the tornado.
