One man is dead and another has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a head-on crash near Lismore.
Emergency services were called to Woodburn-Coraki Rd, Woodburn at about 9.10am on Tuesday following reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Upon arrival police were told an SUV and a sedan had collided head-on between Old Ferry Rd and Swan Bay-New Italy Rd.
One man was reported to be trapped in his car.
The driver of the sedan was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and a Westpac Rescue Helicopter doctor, yet despite best efforts, he was unable to be revived and died at the scene.
Police said although he is yet to be formally identified, the man is believed to be aged in his 80s.
The driver of the SUV, an 80-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to Lismore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Officers from Richmond Police District established a crime scene and have commenced inquiries.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
