Two new Covid-19 cases in Ballina and Clarence Valley, one person in ICU

Health authorities have recorded new Covid-19 cases in Ballina and the Clarence Valley as a patient is cared for in a hospital intensive care unit.

Two new Covid case were recorded overnight in Northern NSW.

One case was in the Ballina local government area and one in the Clarence Valley.

The Northern NSW Local Health District released a statement saying contact tracing had started to determine any venues of concern.

There have been 102 total cases reported in the Northern NSW Health District since the Delta outbreak began in Sydney on June 16.

Two cases are being cared for in hospital, one in intensive care.

The Clarence Valley cluster remains the biggest in Northern NSW having recorded 29 of the region’s 98 cases in the past four weeks.

NSW recorded 283 cases on Tuesday and seven deaths.

There have been 486 Covid-19 related deaths in NSW since June 16 and 542 in total since the start of the pandemic.

There have been 66,330 locally acquired cases reported since June 16 in NSW.

There are currently 552 Covid-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 124 people in intensive care, 66 of whom required ventilation.

A NSW Health breakdown of Covid cases in the past four weeks shows:

  • Ballina: 10
  • Byron Bay: 6
  • Clarence Valley: 29
  • Coffs Harbour: 5
  • Kyogle: 16
  • Lismore: 14
  • Richmond Valley: 18
  • Tweed: 4

Anyone with even the slightest symptoms should get tested as soon as they feel unwell. There are more than 500 Covid-19 testing locations across NSW.

In regards to vaccination, 92.3 per cent of people aged 16 and over in NSW had received a first dose of Covid -19 vaccine as of Monday, October 18.

81.6 per cent were fully vaccinated by that same date.
