Australia has reached a significant vaccine milestone while elective surgery in NSW will return after three months. Read our Covid blog.

Victorian reopening roadmap for retail makes ‘zero sense’

Australia has hit the 70 per cent double dose vaccination milestone with 33 million jabs now put into arms across the country.

"Significantly, (the vaccination rate) is 70 per cent double vaccinated and the first vaccination rate is at 85.5 per cent and that is continuing to grow," federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said.

Yesterday 277,000 Aussies got the jab, with one unknown individual the person who tipped the nation over the key vaccination milestone.

It comes as non-urgent elective surgery restarts in NSW from Monday after a three-month hold.

Procedures including cosmetic surgery and hip replacements will resume in public and private hospitals across Greater Sydney from October 25, according to NSW Health.

Urgent elective surgery resumed earlier this month on October 5.
