South Lismore brewers will be in delivery mode this weekend as their beers emerge fresh from the cannery for the first time.

Two Mates Brewing brought in a new head brewer, Neil Whittorn, to steer the company through the past six weeks of the business milestone after their initial brewer left the business.

“We’re making five beautiful brews that we’ll have on all the time and at this stage we’ve got three specialties; a lager, a mid lager and we have the 5th Wheel which is something a bit special,” Mr Whittorn said.

“We have a red XPA as well and we have an American Brown at the moment, a mango-passionfruit sour and a choc-cherry porter.”

He said each brew took three to four weeks to complete due to the variety and complexity of some of the recipes.

“I always say there is never a bad beer, there’s good beers and better beers,” he said.

“Well at the moment we’ve got all better beers.”

Online sales for the beers launched on Friday and the company said it would deliver free to customers in the 2480 postcode.

Owned and run by two local families, the Smiths and the Newtons, Two Mates Brewing founder Andrew Newton said their focus wouldn’t be on one specific beer.

“Initially we’ve thrown two mid-strength beers into our range,” Mr Newton said.

He said there was a market for lower-alcohol drinks.

“Grant and I are both tragic hockey players, you go out, you have a game, you go back to the clubhouse for a couple of beers,” he said.

“Everyone’s out there drinking XXXX Gold and Great Northern at the moment.

“We’ve got two beers that’ll smash those out of the marketplace.”

He said the next step for their wholesale taphouse was to comply with the remaining conditions of their development application to allow their public to enjoy their products in house.
