Lismore City Council's Waste Operations Coordinator Kevin Trustum said the four annual Tip Free Days are hugely popular, and he advised people to avoid delays by coming early morning or late afternoon.

"Everyone ends up coming smack bang in the middle of the day and then people have to wait," Mr Trustum said.

"If you plan ahead and pack your trailer the day before, you can come first thing and you'll have less delays and the rest of the day to enjoy."

"Alternatively, you could spend Sunday loading up your trailer and bring it to the tip late in the afternoon when the rush is almost over."

"It spreads out the work for the tip staff and it means you have less time sitting in the car."

Anyone can take part in Tip Free Day - there are just a few simple rules.

• Bring along your rates notice or licence to show you live in the Lismore City Council area.
• Keep scrap metal, timber, green waste, household items and other recyclables separate.
• You cannot dispose of commercial quantities of chemicals, asbestos and truck/tractor tyres. No more than 12 tyres are allowed in one load.

Tip Free Day is this Sunday, February 15 from 9am-4pm at the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre on Wyrallah Road, East Lismore.
