Update 2.15pm: Heavy rainfall continues to cover the Northern Rivers, with some regions recording more than 20mm since 9am on Wednesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has released the most up to date rainfall:

  • Lismore - 10mm
  • Tweed Heads - 14mm
  • Cape Byron - 4.8mm
  • Ballina - 5mm
  • Uki - 21mm
  • Casino 4.8mm

And all this rain isn’t the only thing people are complaining about.

Temperatures have seemed to have suddenly dropped, causing everyone to dig out their jumpers and comfy socks to keep warm.

Currently there is nowhere on the Northern Rivers that doesn’t have a temperature below 15 degrees.

Cape Byron seems to be the coolest place on the North Coast, and not just for all the influences hoping to gain a spot on the new Netflix show Byron Baes.

BOM forecast temperatures in the seaside town are currently 13.7 degrees.

Original: It’s not looking promising if you’ve got a stack load of washing to do this week, with heavy rain forecast across the Northern Rivers.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a near 100 per cent of chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon forecast for Lismore on Wednesday.

Plus there’s a chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening with a top of 21 degrees.

A BOM spokeswoman said there’s also a chance hail will develop across the day, with a weather warning currently in place in the North West Slopes region.

“We are expecting a bit more of an interesting weather pattern in the sense the system is very slow moving, rainfall totals will accumulate quite significantly,” she said.

“There will be thunderstorms in this massive rain.”

The spokeswoman said the dynamics in upper atmosphere which is very cold could bring the accumulation of hail

“It’s not necessarily the large hail we see in the summer,” she said.

“We’re mindful it might not be the regular thunderstorm … but as that whole system is moving to the Lismore region, the warning will progress with it as well.”

Both Ballina and Byron Bay are forecast to get 20mm-30mm of rain on Wednesday but with a top of 21 degrees.

Tweed Heads can also expect a bit of rain, with a 95 per cent chance of showers bringing up to 25mm of rain throughout the day.

Rain is expected to fall on Thursday across the Northern Rivers, just not as heavy as Wednesday.

But it’s good news for those who love the Autumn sunshine as the weekend rolls round the weather is set to improve.

There’s a slight chance of rain in Lismore, Ballina and Byron Bay but it’s going to be mostly sunny so get that load of washing ready.
