A $6.5 million, four-storey block of units slated for affordable housing in Lismore has been approved.
Lismore City Council granted conditional consent for the development, which will provide 30 new units at 42 McKenzie St in Lismore.
Newton Denny Chapelle lodged the development application on behalf of North Coast Community Housing, and said the development would provide affordable housing in the form of 10 one-bedroom units, and 20 two-bedroom units.
In February, North Coast Community Housing, chief executive, John McKenna said the housing would be a mix of private and affordable rental with a component of social housing.
He said the units would be perfect for people wanting to downsize, and to be closer to amenities such as Lismore Base Hospital and Lismore Shopping Square.
The proposed block of units will be situated at between Hunter and Diadem Sts.
Mr McKenna said the demand for smaller homes was very high across the region.
“The need for one and two bedroom properties is enormous … this type of smaller affordable housing is very much needed in the region,” he said.
Mr McKenna said North Coast Community Housing got the block as part of an equity swap with NSW Government in 2017.
Hours of work would be confined to: Monday to Friday, 7am -6pm; and Saturday, 8am-1pm.
