FAMILIES, young children and their teddy bears are invited to Missingham Bridge at Ballina today for a morning of fun and free activities.
Face painting, story telling, Aboriginal services and a jumping castle will all be part of the inaugural Teddy Bear's Picnic hosted by local children community services as part of National Child Protection Week which runs until Saturday.
Local child protection councillor Lindy Ellis said the picnic will be a fun event geared towards families and children 0-5 years old and will create awareness about child protection and abuse.
“We hope to raise awareness about child protection week and children services in the Ballina area,” she said.
“We are trying to let the community know the well being and safety of children is everyone's' business.”
Be sure to have Teddy in his/her best attire as there will be prizes for best dressed teddy bear, a sausage sizzle and sock puppet show, creating a fun environment for local and visiting families.
“It will be a fun day for children and a happy environment which every child should be entitled to,” Ms Ellis said.
The picnic is between 9.30am and 11.30am today.
