The dignity that work offers a person, and the ripple effect of benefits that paid employment brings, cannot be underestimated.

Add a safe place to live and you have the basis for a future where an individual can feel enormous self-confidence in their future.

Step into Tomorrow is a free eight-week, government-funded employment campaign featuring pop up events in Lismore and Tweed to encourage people to reach their employment and housing goals – and to help local businesses requiring motivated staff.

The program is open to people 17 years or older who live in social housing, receive the Rent Choice Subsidy, or who are on the NSW Housing Register.

Social Futures Opportunity Pathways Program Manager, Jahdon Quinlan, said the campaign is designed to accelerate matching employers to job seekers in an innovative and collaborative way.

“Having work gives people a sense of purpose,” he said.

“Being in paid employment can have a transformative effect on their lives and that of their families and the community around them.”

Mr Quinlan said Step into Tomorrow offers flexible and tailored support to participants, ranging from pre-employment training and help finding a job, to ongoing support in their first year in their chosen employment.

It also supports them to access housing opportunities in the private sector.

“The program creates opportunities for participants to explore careers they may not even dream are open to them,” he said.

“We’re open to new participants calling us to find out if they are suitable and discuss how we can help them achieve their work and housing goals.”

Mr Quinlan said they hope to attract at least another 40 participants across the region.

He said through engaging with Social Futures service during this time, staff aim to connect people as effectively and efficiently as possible to sustainable employment solutions.

“We have already us a few interested for the program,” he said.

“If any local businesses are requiring motivated staff they are also welcome to get in touch with me on 0419 499 705.”
